How To Plan Your First Trip Together

You’ve been dating for a while. Things are going well. Now it’s time to take things to the next level… by booking a holiday together! Hooray! On our first trip together, we visited the City of Love – Paris. It doesn’t get any more romantic than that. But travelling together can also be a testing time for a new relationship. So when you decide to take your love on the road, here are a few tips to help you.

FIVE EASY STEPS TO PLANNING YOUR FIRST TRIP AS A COUPLE

Step 1 - Choose A Destination

You’ve got a bucket list and your new boyfriend or girlfriend has a bucket list – put your heads together and check if there are mutual destinations on your lists that you’re both dying to visit. Discuss the logistics. When is the best time to go, how long to go for, can you both get time off work (if necessary) and how much it will cost. Once you’ve weighed up your options, then select your destination and book your tickets!

Step 2 - Compromise

Make a list of museums, restaurants, shops and activities that you’d each like to visit and decide which options are feasible based on seasonality, cost and interest. In this getting-to-know-each-other stage, you’re still learning what piques your significant other’s interest (good for future present ideas!). No doubt you’ll have similar interests but differences also so don’t forget to compromise.

Step 3 - Stick To The Budget

It would be wise to stick to a budget but perhaps also add a little buffer. Granted you’re likely to still be in the honeymoon phase so why not upgrade the hotel or make a reservation at a fancy restaurant? Remember, there’s no need to go overboard. You can still impress your significant other without going beyond your means.

Step 4 - Plan A Date Night

Our date nights usually revolve around food but you can have fun with this one! You’re in a foreign city so almost anything is possible. Hire bicycles to explore cobbled lanes, pack a picnic and find a spot to watch the sunset or find a bar to enjoy wine and music by the locals. Do some research and make sure to double check the weather forecast!

Step 5 - Be Spontaneous & Have Fun!

It’s still butterflies in the tummy stage (hopefully) so try not to stress too much about how your hair looks. Stay open-minded to the foreign city you’re in and the person by your side and who knows? This could be the beginning of something more!
